This course is on-demand and available to fit into your busy schedule! Once purchased, expect to be enrolled in your course within five business days. WELCOME

For PATH Intl. Certified Professionals serving youth who have experienced trauma, abuse and neglect, this course aims to describe how trauma may affect EAA participants and guide instructors on how to develop a trauma-informed approach to EAA programing. Feature presentations by industry leaders and subject matter experts Rebecca Miller (BSW and PATH Intl. Equine Specialist in Mental Health and Learning) and Hallie Sheade (PhD, LPC, RPT, NCC, PATH Intl. Registered Instructor and Equine Specialist in Mental Health and Learning) will allow course participants to enhance their studies.

By the conclusion of the course, learners will:

1. Describe acute, chronic and complex trauma and positive, tolerable and toxic stress. For each type of trauma or stress, identify potential catalysts and physiological responses observed in children.

2. Identify the effects on developmental pathways and brain development in youths who have experienced trauma.

3. Demonstrate programing, behavior management and teaching strategies to support and influence success in youth participants who have experienced trauma.

4. Identify characteristics of a trauma-informed approach to EAA programing and methods to implement a resilience model into therapeutic lessons and activities.

Course Length and Schedule

This new course style is on-demand, meaning participants do not need to wait for a specific day of the month to begin work. Flexible to busy schedules, this self-study model allows course participants to access material and work through content at their own pace. The course will require approximately four hours of work, including reading provided materials, viewing presentations and completing assessment questions. Once enrolled, the course will be available for 60 days. During this time, participants can log in and out as many times as they wish.

Attendance/Participation

There are no live or synchronous activities in this course; all coursework is done on your own time, following the deadlines provided. Course participants will earn a certificate of completion after completing the course assessment. *A certificate of completion is not an instructor certification.

All are welcome to participate in this course! This is an ideal introductory course on trauma for PATH Intl. Certified Riding Instructors, PATH Intl. Equine Specialists in Mental Health and Learning, PATH Intl. Certified Driving Instructors, PATH Intl. Instructors-in-Training, EAAT program directors, EAAT center administrators, EAAT program volunteers or anyone interested in learning more on how to support youth participants who have experienced trauma.
