Important CPR and First Aid Clarification

Although documentation of current Adult & Child CPR and First Aid certifications no longer needs to accompany your annual compliance/ membership renewal paperwork, current Adult & Child CPR and First Aid certifications ARE REQUIRED to complete PATH Intl. certification at all levels, including during application phases. After completing certification, it is expected that all instructors will continue to maintain these certifications and are prepared to provide documentation of current certifications upon request.

Region Award Winners Announced

congratulations fireworks

A big congratulations to all the winners and nominees!

Every year, PATH Intl. centers and members nominate the very best equestrians, certified professionals, veterinarians, volunteers and equines serving at PATH Intl. Centers, and we are pleased to announce the regional and equestrian award winners. Each year our judges face an increasingly difficult decision to choose from among the outstanding nominations, once again demonstrating the high quality of service our centers offer. We especially want to thank all the nominators for their dedication in recognizing the achievements of those in equine-assisted activities and therapies. A special thank you also to our judges!

See the list of the 2015 PATH Intl. Region Award Winners here.

Exhibiting pays off! For more information, email Cher Smith or call her at (800) 369-7433, ext. 123.

Wounded Warrior Project & PATH Intl. Level 2 Warrior Intensive Workshops a Success!

WWP alumni and mustangs
Through funding from Wounded Warrior Project, 40 WWP Alumni are receiving the opportunity to participate in these incredible, advanced horsemanship workshops hosted by PATH Intl. Premier Accredited Centers BraveHearts Therapeutic Riding & Educational Center (in Harvard, IL) and Rainier Therapeutic Riding (in Yelm, WA). With three of these workshops complete, participating WWP Alumni have had the chance to experience the fast-paced sport of cattle cutting, to gentle wild mustangs fresh from the BLM and to challenge their riding skills through an extreme mountain trail obstacle course. Due to their participation in these pilot workshops, these WWP Alumni are continuing to stride forward and seek out new opportunities in their own communities, live healthier lives and have even begun to dream of becoming PATH Intl. Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructors!

Thank you to Wounded Warrior Project, BraveHearts and Rainier Therapeutic Riding!

Equine Tip From the PATH Intl. Equine Welfare Committee

Animals as Sentient Beings
Molly Sweeney, PATH Intl. Equine Welfare Committee Member

I have always appreciated PATH Intl.'s emphasis on the well being of the horses in our programs. The PATH International Code of Ethics states: Principle 1; The member respects the rights, dignity and well-being of all individuals (human and horses) and promotes well-being for all involved. ... So it was with interest that I recently read that the Government of New Zealand had officially recognized animals as sentient beings by amending animal welfare legislation. Read more

The PATH Intl. Equine Welfare Committee is making a commitment to refine and deepen our perspective of equine well-being to include the physical, mental and emotional well-being of our wonderful four-legged partners. Join us on this journey. Please add your thoughts on the PATH Intl. Community Connections page. It is our desire that these tips start a further discussion on Community Connections. Any thoughts? We appreciate hearing from you!

Membership Survey Deadline Approaching

Have you ever sat in the backseat and wondered, "Why don't they ask me? I know where we're going!" PATH Intl. wants you to sit in the front seat and help navigate your member association by sharing your thoughts on our current direction.

This membership survey may look familiar to some of you. In 2012, this survey was used to provide direction for our current strategic plan. Now we want to see how things are going. We want to know how you like your membership benefits, the association's educational offerings (online, printed and trainings), certifications and other association offerings and how that compares to the original survey.

Click here if you are an individual or instructor member

Click here if you are a center executive or director

The survey will take approximately 15 minutes to complete and will close July 31

Your opinion matters. Help make a difference in your association. Take the survey and earn a chance to win $75 in PATHBucks.*

Thank you for working with us to reach our destination!

*PATHBucks are like receiving a gift certificate to PATH Intl.! PATHBucks can be applied to memberships (center and individual), PATH Intl. educational materials, PATH Intl. Registered Instructor applications and PATH Intl. conference registrations (international and regional).

Changes to Certification Compliance Requirements

"What's this? Certification compliance requirements have changed?"

That's correct. In alignment with Strategic Plan objectives of quality assurance and excellence in credentialing, PATH Intl. is pleased to announce updated Continuing Education and Compliance procedures as of July 1, 2015. The revisions focus on the pursuit of continual professional development so that our certified professionals are considered to be at the forefront of the EAAT industry.

"Does that mean the continuing education I've gathered over the last year won't be accepted?"

Not necessarily. Many of the same activities are still accepted; the new requirements delineate professional development/continuing education activities into categories. While the revisions went into effect on July 1, 2015, PATH Intl. Certified Professionals--including riding, driving and interactive vaulting instructors and equine specialists in mental health and learning--will have a choice of which compliance requirements to submit until January 1, 2016. PATH Intl. will accept both the 2014 compliance form and the 2015 compliance form through the remainder of 2015 to accommodate those who have been earning continuing education hours per the 2014 requirements this past membership year. Please note that certified professionals will be required to meet the compliance requirements exactly as they are stated on the compliance form submitted.

"So what are the revisions?"
