NARHA National Conference Session Highlight
2010 conference logoThis year's workshops and sessions at the 2010 NARHA National Conference (presented by Purina) promise to be outstanding. This year we have TWO Administrative Tracks that will stimulate thinking about your center. Some of the exciting sessions are "Event Planning Tips and Strategies" with Christy Landwehr, a session that will cover all aspects of event planning, including budgets, timelines, fundraisers and insurance; "Make Your Volunteer Program a Win-Win Opportunity" with Jeanna Pellino, which will help you provide great opportunities for learning to your volunteers; and "Leveraging the Latest Technology for EAAT" with Himanshu Jain, which will teach you to use the Internet, Google tools and webinars to promote your center and help you meet common center challenges.
These are only a few of the Administrative Track sessions. There are many more! And that's not even mentioning the Research, Integrative Programming and Practical Application Tracks. There is a plethora of offerings for everyone!
For all the scheduled sessions, visit the NARHA website.

Have Fun and Raise Money for NARHA
NARHA's silent auction is always a fun-filled and high demand event of the NARHA National Conference and Annual Meeting and this year's promises to be no different. Proceeds from the silent auction help NARHA and the hosting region support safety and professionalism in the community of special people and equines who offer equine-assisted activities and therapies (EAAT).

Download the Silent Auction form here or on NARHA's website. Use this form to donate to the silent auction or to donate items for the registration bags. Or give a form to someone you know who would love to donate to the cause of improving lives through equine-assisted activities and therapies.

For information, questions or to make a donation, email Diane Eshelman, Sandy McMahon or Cher Smith.
Donate a Region Basket to NARHA's Silent Auction
Photo of an empty NARHA basketThe excitement is growing for the 2010 NARHA National Conference and Annual Meeting sponsored by Purina.
Join the fun of donating a "Region Basket." Ask your region's members to add something in their suitcase that will make up a unique theme and offer fun in regional competition. Can't bring a basket from your region? We will have one waiting for you. You bring or send the fillers!
All donations will be tallied and logged in, allowing NARHA to track the region making the most donations. NARHA will recognize the most generous region with a special award for its members.
Click here and download and complete the donation form so that the silent auction committee will have the information they need and you will get the credit you deserve!
Movie About Temple Grandin Wins Emmy
EFMHA workshop at 2006 conferenceWith all the talk about the National Conference coming up in November, many of our members are recalling previous conferences. The 2006 conference in Indianapolis, IN, was particuarly memorable, as Temple Grandin, a woman with high-functioning autism, spoke as the keynote. Grandin revolutionized practices for the humane treatment of livestock in cattle ranches and slaughterhouses. She is a Doctor of Animal Science and a professor at Colorado State University. She is also a bestselling author and consultant to the livestock industry for animal behavior and is well known for her work in autism advocacy.

The HBO original movie Temple Grandin, which debuted last February, garnered 15 Emmy nominations and seven wins. Actress Claire Danes won the 2010 Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or Movie for her portrayal as Temple Grandin. The movie also won the Emmy for Outstanding Made for Television Movie.
