Michael Kaufmann

Michael Kaufmann is the Farm & Wildlife Director at the PATH Intl. Premier Accredited Center Green Chimneys Farm in Brewster, NY, and the Director of the Sam and Myra Ross Institute. He has been a member of PATH Intl. since 1989, was a certified instructor and continues to publish and lecture internationally on animal-assisted activities/therapy and animal welfare.

Michael has been actively involved in human and animal interaction programs, animal welfare and humane education for more than 40 years. Since 2005, he has been directing programs at Green Chimneys dedicated to education and research on the human connection to animals and the natural world.

At PATH Intl. Michael worked on the original development of our center accreditation standards, instructor certification and criteria, participating in the creation of the professional frameworks for the association. He took PATH Intl. Strides to the award-winning publication it is today. With the PATH Intl. Board of Trustee and staff, he gathered professionals for the original terminology summit. Michael also helped develop the precautions and contraindications to therapeutic riding document and was instrumental in shaping equine-facilitated psychotherapy through the Equine-Facilitated Mental Health Association, of which he was a founding board member.

Michael was the PATH Intl. James Brady Professional Achievement Award recipient in 2016.

He lives in rural Connecticut with three dogs and his super patient husband, Rick, who has coped with MK and his PATH Intl. obsession for over 30 years!
